The stone biomes have sharp edges at the chunk borders, to me it looks like the X and Z axis are swapped but they might be mirrored as well.
You can very clearly see this when you generate a superflat world with a stone surface as I've done in these screenshots.
Sedimentary stones seem to work properly.
