I think the most urgent legislative change anywhere in Aus is to mandate a rigorous statistical audit of the the digitised Senate preferences against the paper ballots. Likewise for the state upper houses that are counted electronically.

What is the most important tech-related legislative change you’d like to see?

I would like to see clear minimum mandatory requirements for automated decision making in government; these need to be enforceable. Also a requirement to conduct algorithmic impact assessments or similar. This is especially relevant as the government announces its intention to continue with automated debt recovery activities.

Is there an up-to-date list of the jurisdictions that use electronic voting and electronic vote counting?

I think the ACT is the furthest along this path - 70% of their votes were electronic in 2020, and all their counting is electronic. (The ACT only has a single House of Parliament, but it has multi-member electorates, so the counting is like an upper house count.)
