What

Currently, on mobile view, the Navigation block opens with all submenu items open by default. Screenshot:

Image

Why

Expanding submenu items by default on small-screen devices will make it difficult to browse the menu items. It would be nice if the dropdown icons are shown for mobile menus as well.

@devNigel Thanks for submitting this enhancement request!

@Automattic/t-rex while I'm unsure if we could add this to GB, can we consider adding this to our themes to improve mobile menus UX in mobile devices? Thank you!

@jartes I don't think so, the Gutenberg navigation block doesn't have this capability.

cc: @iamtakashi in case he knows of a way.

Thanks for the ping. There isn't that I know of.

I don't think implementing it in themes is right, though. It should be implemented in Gutenberg as all the sites will benefit from it. Yes, I know...
