Proposal Information

Description

Alphaday helps solve the issue of information fragmentation. We aim to serve as a central point where any user (whether they are a developer, enthusiast, investor) can instantly get the Neo information they need. 

Motivation

Market research we conducted in 2021 concluded that crypto users are overwhelmed with information and spend a lot of time jumping from one news source to another, from one social site to another, and usually have dozens of tabs open to stay up to date with everything happening in a community. 

We are aiming to be the de facto homepage for all crypto users. People using Alphaday to stay up to date with their favourite crypto projects, listen to podcasts, do research, participate in discussions and much more. Other competitors are all competing within much narrower niches. We get their services and integrate them into our app so users don’t have to jump from one service to another, it's all available on Alphaday.

Goals

In general, users who can track their favorite project more easily, stay engaged with the project which in turn supports user retention. Alphaday can also be used as an onboarding tool for newcomers since it aggregates all relevant project-specific data into one dashboard for visibility and ease of access.

We do not have direct competitors who are competing in the experience aggregator space but our individual widgets do overlap with features offered by Dune, Nansen, Zapper/Zerion, Coingecko, Discord, DeFiLama, Snapshot. Alphaday is, in its own way, a niche product.

Bear in mind that the above are feeding data to Alphaday itself.

Milestone 1: Development & Deployment

We would like to create a Neo ecosystem dashboard that aggregates the following information into a single community dashboard:

• The latest Neo official announcements and blog post content.

• A feed of all news mentions of Neo from coindesk, cointelegraph and 20+ other news sources aggregated from across the internet.

• A calendar containing all Neo events including Governance votes, meetups, conferences, hackathons with bounties, AMAs.

• Podcast feed featuring Neo/NEO/GAS.

• Neo Documentation directory.

• Discord & Reddit Integration to show a feed of latest discussions.

• General FAQ/Neo-CLI FAQ/Development FAQ, NEO/GAS tokenomics information.

• Live NEO/GAS spot price chart.

• Developer tools, Eco Support, tutorials, guides, grants & bounties, documentation, and any other resources that can help developers build on Neo.

• Neo ‘Join Us’ integration to show the latest open jobs listed.

• NEO TVL data through Defillama integration

• Neo Contributors information.

• Categorized links and descriptions of DApps & Apps offered in the Neo ecosystem.

• Other relevant important links.

We should be able to build and deploy the above dashboard within 2 months so if this grant is approved we want to launch the Neo dashboard by March 2025 (tentatively).

Once the dashboard is finalized, we publish it and start marketing the dashboard, get feedback, and reiterate the dashboard accordingly.

Milestone 2: Maintenance and Curation

Total Budget: 100 NEO

Maintenance primarily entails:

• Changes in APIs or RSS feeds need to be updated on a regular basis.

• News sources or other content sources to be added or removed.

• Manually import data, such as upcoming events, that are not picked up by the Alphaday aggregator engine.

• New developments or integrations, and quality assurance/testing of new features and widgets.

This milestone has no due date and is indefinite.

Tech Stack

Alphaday is a React-Typescript dashboard on the frontend using a Python-Django backend built on distributed infrastructure with Postgres and Redis Databases.

Data importation is automated through RSS feeds and APIs; this refers to widgets such as Discord, News, Market price, Reddit, Podcasts, Videos, Latest Video, TVL, Blog, Forum, and DAO (Snapshot).

Other widgets such as Hiring Directory/Career, Events in Calendar, Documentation, Links, etc. are manually created and updated.

Deliverables Verifiability

We already have built dozens of dashboards for our existing partners and marketed them.

The community will be able to verify our work simply by visiting “https://app.alphaday.com/b/neo” once the dashboard is developed and deployed. We will also be marketing the dashboard to our community via Twitter/X and other social media channels.

We currently have ~10,000 MAU (organic) with minimal resources spent on marketing; our roadmap for 2025 is focused on marketing a lot more. Average session time per user is 9 minutes and retention rate across 1/7/30 days is 56%/53%/50% as measured by Hotjar. Top countries: USA 18%, Germany 7% Nigeria 6% Turkey 6%, UK 5%.

In terms of numbers, considering Neo has ~420K twitter followers and using this as a very crude proxy for community size, we would consider it a success if we could serve a modest 0.5% of them on a monthly basis (~2.1K MAU) as a start.

Budget Plan

100 NEO upfront costs for development and deployment of the dashboard. Marketing of the dashboard is included here.

100 NEO for maintenance including having an Alphaday content analyst quality-checking the dashboard routinely and applying requested or other changes.

1. Phase 2 has a sustaining cost. Is this something that will be periodic or will that cover long term support?

2. Will Neo be presented as a tab on your interface?
   

3. This is a pretty interesting tool. I am a proponent of increasing the number to support a sponsored campaign as well.

1. The sustaining cost is a one time payment that will cover long term support. Although the payment can be done together with deployment as a one-time pay, we still keep in touch with all our partners and make changes and cooperate whenever required.
2. Yes, we can present Neo on the interface as soon as the dashboard is published.
3. We can offer you a package for a sponsored campaign that combines marketing of the Neo dashboard as well as promotional cards on Pulse Crypto. We can discuss the price and process for promotional cards via a call if you will.

This seems like an interesting way to help the community have a more organized way to consume information. Broadly speaking, how do you envision the campaign to promote the addition of the Neo tab on the platform? Is there any study on the channels and communication activities so we can get an idea of how you plan to encourage and measure the use of the dashboard?

Hey @Mikael337 thanks for submitting the proposal to GrantShares! I really like the cleanliness of the dashboard - it strikes me as something similar to Messari (hope I'm not causing offense comparing your project to a competitor 😋).

I've long-thought the Neo ecosystem needs a dashboard, because there's still not one place that we can go to for an aggregated version of "everything Neo." I think, if approved, a lot of the members in GrantShares can help provide you with links to the sources of information in the dashboard, and also to point you in the right direction of GitHub repos and other documentation.

I've got a few questions to help shape my position on the proposal:

1. What are the websites user metrics regarding clickthrough rates? How often are visitors checking out the links per blockchain/ecosystem?
2. What are the maintenance requirements on your end? How do we know that a year or two from now that the Neo tab will still be populated with relevant information?
3. Neo's got a variety of native services (distributed storage, oracle, etc) and has various GitHub repositories spread among different communities. Will those communities repos (I.e., AxLabs/neow3j, Neo SPCC, NGD, NEXT, and others) also be included on the page, even though many aren't "officially Neo"?
4. Are there other metrics or data points your team is planning to add to the dashboard?

Thank you for your questions and feedback.
As soon as we publish the dashboard we Tweet about it and let all our users know about the new dashboard. We can create a blog post about Neo as well to educate our users about it. If you’d like to further push marketing then we can create cards on the Pulse Crypto app about it with links to the dashboard and news & information about Neo. Pulse Crypto has more users and is growing rapidly, so cards featuring Neo would potentially attract a lot more attention from our users. As for measuring user engagement, we have internal data that we can share with you for both Alphaday and Pulse Crypto separately.

Messari is definitely a competitor but their target audience is quite different, as we aim for regular everyday crypto users, and they target bigger institutions and such with more detailed analysis and data.

We’ll gladly work with the members in GrantShares to add all relevant links and sources to the dashboard. We could do this via Discord or Telegram to speed up the process, as well as establish a communication channel for future requests/changes.

1. On Alphaday, clickthrough rates on average are 20% during the 1st month of publishing the board, and they decline to ~15% in the months after.
2. The majority of the data importation is automated through RSS feeds and APIs; this refers to widgets such as Discord, News, Market price, Reddit, Podcasts, Videos, Latest Video, TVL, Blog, Forum, and DAO (Snapshot). We regularly QA the app to make sure automated sources are all functional.
   Other widgets such as Hiring Directory/Career, Events in Calendar, Documentation, Links, etc. are manually created and updated. In case we miss updating anything manually, you can let us know and we’ll get to it.
   We have partners from 2023 that we regularly communicate with regarding minor changes to their dashboards. There is no reason for us to stop communicating with any of our partners, as we love building dashboards for them and strive to see Alphaday and Pulse-Crypto grow.
3. We can include any source and information that your team and users want (wherever technically possible for Alphaday). Bear in mind however, that the dashboard may become too congested if we add too many widgets and data. We normally recommend a maximum of 15-25 widgets per dashboard, but you can exceed that if you wish.
4. We are currently working on new features on both Alphaday and Pulse Crypto. Certain new data points on Alphaday are already in the pipeline but have been deprioritized for the time being, as we’ve had to focus our most recent development on Pulse Crypto.
