.NET 6.0 is coming up on the end of support in November

Describe the solution you'd like

Update to .NET 8.0

Describe alternatives you've considered

n/a

Additional context

.NET 8.0 is the current LTS version of .NET and should be supported as the primary target as it's support is not scheduled to end until November 2026.
