Save/Load menu lags out #329

What happened

Save/load screen bugs out. Once I open the menu it works for a split second and then it gets more and more laggy until the mouse doesn't move at all. Mouse clicks do not register. I can press the esc key to back out, but then I no longer can use the mouse. I have to alt+tab to get the mouse to work again.

What you expected to happen

I expect to be able to save and load game files, but I cannot.

Discovered the issue. (might only affect me though).

In the f2_res.ini. I changed ALT_MOUSE_INPUT=0 to =1.

Could you try the fix mentioned in this article to see if it also works?

I'm also having this issue.

ALT_MOUSE_INPUT=1 does not solve it for me, nor does the fix that NovaRain had suggested above.

If I leave ALT_MOUSE_INPUT=1 I can load a save quickly, though it is pretty laggy, but afterwards, trying to travel anywhere, or make a quicksave/regular save results in the menu freezing.

EDIT: The fix from NovaRain seems to work better, but only if ALT_MOUSE_INPUT is set to 0, however, I still can't quicksave/regular save without freezing, and travelling on the world map is still a bit laggy.

Are you guys using Win11? The rest I can think about are checking if your graphics driver applies any FPS limiter or Vsync on the game (disable them if yes), or trying disabling ExtraSaveSlots to see if save/load screens work better.

I am on Windows 11 24H2. I just went back to rpu_v29.exe to see if it was there, and this same lag is there too. I was playing on v29 about 6 months ago and it was flawless, so I guess there's been something off with Windows in the interim, I think I was on 23H2 back then.

EDIT: I tried disabling any sort of V-Sync or Frame Rate limiting (the latter I don't really ever do, and V-Sync is set to "Use the 3D application setting"), as well as disabling ExtraSaveSlots to no avail; same issue as before.

EDIT 2: I think 24H2 might have something to do with this, as I just did a fresh install of Fallout 2 with latest rpu, using an identical save on a separate system that is still on 23H2, and this issue is not present at all.

+1 with this problem on Windows 11. I also tried all the tips with no success. It seems to happen randomly though. Most of the times it will open the save/load menu smoothly (and stay that way for duration of the play), then on another run of the game the mouse starts lagging and quickly freezes entirely when opening the load or save menu. Nothing left to do but to kill the process in Task Manager. But then on another run it might already freeze on intro (the Interplay logo movie).

Also having this issue on Windows 11 24h2 - save and load menus caused hang consistently every time
ExtraSaveSlots disabling didn't fix the issue
what fixed the issue for me - using hybrid mode for MUX switch on laptop (so that Intel GPU can be used instead of NVidia)
and then Display Settings -> Graphics -> added fallout2HR.exe and Intel for GPU preference

That way I can't load to NVidia only mode with MUX switch when loading Fallout 2
