Now, this might be a consequence of skipping the test mentioned in issue #3, but this:

string.split(tool_id, '/')[-2]

This crashes unless there is a specific format for names (toolshed id?). My temporary hack is:

    try:
        source = string.split(tool_id, '/')[-2]
    except:
        source = tool_id
    return source
