Build without VCPKG

Why is it that on Windows vcpkg is seemingly required?

CMake Error at deps/msdf-atlas-gen/CMakeLists.txt:48 (message): Vcpkg toolchain not configured. Either set VCPKG_ROOT environment variable or pass -DCMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_FILE=VCPKG_ROOT/scripts/buildsystems/vcpkg.cmake to cmake

There seems to exist a MSDF_ATLAS_USE_VCPKG CMake option, but then the problem becomes that FreeType can't be located. This only seems to be a problem on Windows

You answered your own question. It is not required and it is "seemingly required" so that FreeType (among other things) can be located. If you are able to install the dependencies on Windows in such a way that find_package(Freetype) finds it, then you're good. But I'm not sure if that is even possible on Windows without a package manager such as vcpkg.
