Maybe I'm misunderstanding something... Is there a sane way to convince your MapEd to edit the enigma tilesets used for things like the title screen? It's kind of a pain to hexedit the things.

No - this is a sprite mapping editor, not a plane map editor. Captain PlaneEd and SoniPlane are plane map editors.

That makes sense, the downside of having sprite maps, block maps, tile/plane maps... naming is hard.

SoniPlane seems mostly defunct given Aurora seems to have disappeared... her website and github are both gone, downloader link might work if it's orphaned on an external host (didn't try) but I'm wary and Java ew.
Your PlaneEd port compiled for me ok (seriously, thank you for putting appimage on so many of your projects) but ends up being unsuitable because it seems like only one artfile can be used and I'm pulling in like 4.

Honestly, I may well just stick with my temporary solution of using a python script to generate the right bytestring and using your compressor to put it back into enigma. Makes more sense anyway since my original goal was embedding a build number.
