I do like the hub and spokes metaphor for describing how RSEs in an institution might be organised in a central RSE unit and peripheral outposts. However, shortening the peripheral RSEs to just spokes does not work. In the competencies paper we talked about RSEs embedded in research groups. So, I would suggest to keep the hub and spokes metaphor but talk about the RSE hub (strangely the metaphor works here) and embedded RSEs.
