There is an example of a bordersrc you can create.

Install via Brew
brew tap FelixKratz/formulae brew install borders

If you are using yabai add this to the end of your yabairc
borders style=square width=6.0 active_color=0xffe1e3e4 inactive_color=0xff494d64&

This should set a square border for you.

That being said, I am still looking to determine how to turn off the rounding inside the border with macos. Should have something shortly.

@NotAriRay looks like all they are doing is removing the titlebars which allows for the square corners. Use that in combination with my suggestion above.

This is do to how Sonoma handles the rendering. I am not aware of a way to fix that.

I remember having an issue with Space Highlighting as well a while back. Don't forget to update your bar at the bottom or it won't highlight until you've switched spaces, if that doesn't work you can look at my sketchybarrc in my Dots repo to see if there's something missing maybe.

Another Nord-Themed setup. Lots of work to do to completely switch over to Sketchybar from previous solutions, but I’m quite happy with how things are turning out!

Thank you for the kind words! I spent most of this weekend taking a break from porting plugins and working on cleaning up my code. I also lack any kind of artistic ability so I just looked up some polybar themes and colored them with the basic nord colors. I use rofi/polybar/bspwm on linux and I’m just so happy I can get a similar set up on macOS with alfred/sketchybar/yabai!

Sketchybar is significantly more powerful than I had assumed at first glance, I’m definitely going to spend some more time writing plugins and making the bar more responsive to mouse events in the near future!

FWIW he has dotfiles here: https://github.com/Kamyil/.dotfiles/. It seems like it's a combination of linux and macos. The sketchybar config isn't there at the time of this message (as far as i can tell), but neovim, tmux and aerospace are there (also yabai and skhd, if you're interested) (and a lot of other stuff, that repo is looking interesting).

Anyways, nice rice! Hopefully that's not sacrilegious. ;)

Hey there,

first: thank you for Sketchybar. <3

The picture shows my first setup.
The dock I have on the left side hiding and showing instantly.
I only use my Macbook in two different monitor-setups: On it's own and with one external 27" screen at home. In the latter case the external monitor gets to be the main screen, has no bar on it and my Macbook screen is to the right of it with the bar only showing there. That way the external monitor can be used 'completely' for displaying program windows.

The left side of the Sketchybar shows:
Icon=which display is active,
firstNumber=which space of the active display is active,
secondNumber=total number of spaces on active display,
thirdNumber=total number of spaces overall.
The font for the numbers is monospaced plus the icon has a set width to avoid movement while switching.

The next item is the classy "show active app", but w/o the dedicated icons. I just use a chevron for all which keeps it cleaner imho.

The third item is an alias of the "One Thing" app, which I set to update once an hour and by using Keysmith I trigger an applescript to update Sketchybar whenever I enter/return a new note.

The fourth, fifth and sixth items are well-known, I guess; I just additionally use "SwitchAudioSource -c" within the volume item to show me the active sound output.

default update=when_shown is set and only overwritten within the battery item (update_freq=60) and within the calender item (update_freq=1). And as mentioned earlier the alias.update_freq=3600 (1thing) and perhaps will get set even higher because it only has to update when a new note is entered/returned, of course.

The height of the bar is 37, which is exactly the height of the notch space; not like the stock menubar which is a bit taller robbing my windows some pixels. Speaking of the notch: The space in the middle of the bar in the screenshot is exactly the place where it is, of course.

I'm finished for now and I'm very happy with the result so far.

The stock menubar is "empty", just showing the control center and the ellipsis icon (...) of the app "Ice", which hides the menubar icons which cannot be hidden within the regarding app itself. The stuff on the right hand side of the menubar is important, of course, but for that I use an app called "Menuwhere" for months now and it's awesome, check it out.

I also use skhd, yabai (of course), an app called "Memmon" (pretty accurately keeps my window-layout when switching the monitor setup) and, as mentioned earlier, keysmith.

I wrote my own little 1thing-note-thingy so I do not have to rely on "One Thing" and the alias for it. Therefore the update is better handled also, since (as far as I know) with aliases I can only change the alias.update_freq, but not the updating itself (when_shown of off doesn't seems possible). So instead of nasty workarounds like updating the alias.update_freq to 1 waiting for 1.1 second and updating it again to the high value via applescript I decided to do a little work myself and write a little something with applescript on my own. Works perfectly, doesn't look much different and handles updates exactly like I want now. Love Q

EDIT: No... 1thing just works better and my workaround regarding the update-interval has to do it for now:
I simply use
sketchybar --add alias "One Thing" q \ --set "One Thing" alias.update_freq=21000
and then this applescript
do shell script "source ~/.zprofile; sketchybar --set 'One Thing' alias.update_freq=1; sleep 0.1; skhd -k 'return'; sleep 1.1; sketchybar --set 'One Thing' alias.update_freq=21000"
to accomodate the tip: "Reduce the update_freq of scripts and aliases and use event-driven scripting when ever possible."
What do you think of that kinda janky solution @FelixKratz ? It seems to be the only way to update an alias manually and it works quite well as it is. But perhaps that all is unnecessary to begin with and updating it every one second is just fine in this case while the performance footprint wouldn't suffer from it - at all basically? Would love to hear your thoughts about that.

Weird thing I recently noticed: The screenshots do not show exactly what I see on my screen. The color/tinting/opacity of the sketchybar is not-so-slightly different.

so what it's wentsketchy?
it's the missing block between sketchybar and aerospace, it can easily also supports yabai if you want, it just need to be developed, but with the buildings blocks already there for aerospace, it shouldn't be a big deal.

You can just fork, use it, and customize at your wish with your colors, etc.

This is because the architecture is selected to be x86 and you are using apple silicon.
