  • network interfaces status, IP address, hostname, is internet working
  • keyboards status?
  • time of day?
  • performance metrics?
  • git status?
  • 'place calibration booklet here'

Idea: virtual-programs/desksaver.folk that does this when no programs are visible + executes an optional folk/user-programs/desksaver.folk where people can add custom metrics, make it display a ball bouncing the extents of the table, display their logo, whatever. Fulfills the same social niche as screensavers: “this computer is alive & running an you can interact with me at any time to Start Computing”

Related: post-Ubuntu splash screen (maybe just project a bunch of white lines in a grid formation?) + maybe boot chime that let’s people know Folk has turned on/rebooted?

show amount of RAM in use (either by all processes or by Folk processes) / total amount of RAM on system

restart Folk if less than 100MB of free RAM on the PC? would probably fix hard freeze on live & Pi systems (they don't swap probably)

also see how we do live-build "Welcome to Folk" and checkerboard-calibration "Folk not calibrated" messages which are similar
