Updating Themes already installed

I am very thankful that Publii CMS is in constant development. It makes a strong tool for deploying content to the web. There are often theme updates with Publii version updates. What is the best way to update a theme? Delete and reinstall it from the themes manager:

• which is what I have been doing, or just install the new theme over the old one?

Is there an update theme process that is on the roadmap for future versions that answers this question - perhaps allowing theme developers to script special update processes?

Seems I made it wrong all the time. I expand the theme and copy/paste it to the appropriate input folder (Publii/sites/sitename/input/themes on MacOS), overwriting the existing one ... Worked pretty well until now 🤷‍♂️

@carstenfeller That method is exactly how I update my themes.

The only exception is if I have theme overrides. For those, I do some git diffs in VS Codium to see what needs to be updated in my modified files.
