Just trying to get started here. I installed the Proteus 1.2 .deb and downloaded and unzipped the tone library into my working folder. I fired up a new Ardour session and opened the Proteus plugin.

I believe the next step is to load a model. The Readme says "Use the Load Model button to select a folder containing Proteus json models."

I am clicking the big "Load Model" button but I'm not getting any sort of file selector. The dropdown says "(no choices)"

What's the trick?

I also have the issue with Proteus installed from Proteus-Linux-x64-1.2.deb where the "Load Model" button does not do anything in Ardour 7 and Mixbus 32C v9 on Linux Mint. It loads up perfectly well as a plugin but that button does not do anything so no models can be loaded so it can't used. Is there a default location in Linux the models can be placed so they appear in the drop down list?

@eater It seems to not be working correctly on your system/DAW, it's supposed to bring up a dialog box where you select the folder containing Proteus models.

For both of you @P4ulJC and @eater , the common thing I see right now is the Ardour DAW, which I have not used or tested with. Possibly the pop up dialog is being blocked. @eater which flavor of linux are you using? In the meantime I'll check out Ardour and see if I can replicate the same behavior.

Thanks!

Thanks for looking into this. And by the way, Ardour has a good forum where the main developer Paul Davis is very active. Mixbus 32C is built on top of Ardour so they are very similar. Good luck in tracking this issue down when you give Ardour a try.

I did a few more tests, and only found one situation where the problem occurs.

Primary system: Ubuntu 22.04 with i3 window manager. In Ardour 7.3.0, I get no Proteus dialog box. In Reaper, I do get a Proteus dialog box.
Secondary system: Ubuntu Studio 22.04 with KDE. I do get a Proteus dialog box in both DAWs.

Alright I tested out Ardour on Windows 11, loading models worked fine for me, so I guess that narrows it down to Ardour on Linux. I have an Ubuntu 18 computer so I'll test on that.

Tried Proteus with two other window managers (Openbox and JWM) in Ardour 7 and Harrison Mixbus 32C v9 but still didn't work. I've got on old install of AVLinux with older versions of Ardour and Mixbus 32C that I'll try later today out of curiosity. I'll get on to the Ardour forums later and see if they have any ideas. I tried all of the config options in Ardour to do with the gui and window management etc and nothing helped.
