I have tried a bunch of things to try and fix this but to no avail.

Something (can be even another ASF instance) already uses this port. Either free this port, or configure ASF to use another port.

OK and how do i go about that?
I found something about ports in the IPC section but changing those doesnt do anything it seems.

IPC article in the wiki has all information about changing ASF's port in "custom configuration" section. If it does not works for you - check if you did everything as described. Check that your configuration has correct format, that you put it to the correct place and it has correct filename.

I am currently stuck on:

Which may be due to the file still being empty?

In the meantime: Are you sure this is a port issue? I checked the ports on this machine and my only other machine in the network for port usage and neither of the two uses any 14** ports at all. I dont remember this being an issue prior to the most recent ASF update a couple days ago.

More likely due to you not wanting to read wiki before making config.

In the meantime: Are you sure this is a port issue?

I'm 99% sure. But it may be something else preventing ASF to open port for listening, sure, like firewall settings. But I'm 100% sure it's not an issue with ASF, otherwise there will be MUCH more error reports than just one from you. Here are some points you missed:

• other machines in network has nothing to do with this, we are talking about local ports.
• port 1242 is no withing 14** range.
• if you are using windows (since you never bothered to upload full log I have no means to know that) - also check the output of netsh int ip show excludedportrange protocol=tcp command.
