Break into 2 columns, when appropriate

Current line length (on the front page) can bbe long (~115 characters, suggested is 45-85 characters). One option might be to break the text into two columns using CSS. However, perhaps then the text will need to be broken into "pages" to allow you to read a screen-ful at a time.
