Meshing job never reports finishing

I've been having this issue with netgen for a while. I load an STL as a mesh, then click "Generate mesh". Mesh generation runs, apparently without error, but the blue progress bar in the bottom-right corner never reaches completion although CPU usage goes to zero. Clicking "Stop" does nothing, clicking Mesh->Mesh Quality or "Generate mesh" shows an error saying "Meshing Job already running". The only way to mesh again is to restart netgen.

I'm using the latest netgen, compiled by me with GCC12 on a Ubuntu-like OS.
