Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

The toolshelves are useful, but they look like razor blades (BevelSoliStripeMesh). Their sharpness feels threatening on a psychological level. When I cuddle other users, the edginess of the toolshelves grab my attention again because they are unsymmetrical (by this I mean that if you hold your hands up side by side, the toolshelves never form a mirror image). Even in casual virtual existence, the presence of the toolshelves takes me out of immersion because there is no other place in reality, virtual reality, or fiction where razor blades constantly hover about one's hands.

Relevant issues

This thread is the only other thread that involves toolshelves at all that I could see.

Describe the solution you'd like

  1. Let the avatar creator automatically create a context menu item that toggles the active state of the toolshelves.
  2. Let the user select a different default shape of the toolshelves.
  3. Let and help the user to use custom objects as their toolshelves.
  4. Create a system/program that aligns existing toolshelves to mirror each other after avatar creation.

Describe alternatives you've considered

I have already created a custom context menu item to toggle the active state of my toolshelves. I give this to everyone who wants it, but it should be present in all avatars because many non-users assume that the toolshelves are an inherent part of Neos that cannot be changed and they do not want to have their avatars "branded".

why couldn't the toolshelf model just be an elongated bean

The asymmetry has definitely bothered me in past- I usually place my toolshelves on the back of my hands where they tend to be out of the way/not in risk of clipping against loved ones, while still being easily accessible.

It may not help with the sharpness of the visuals at the moment- but perhaps you could see if repositioning them to see if it provides any extra comfort?

I have already added a context menu toggle to my avatars to disable the toolshelves. I have my avatar saved with the toolshelves off by default. This makes sense to me because I would have to spawn my tools anyway so what is the point of having the shelves to hold them active all the time?

When I am using toolshelves, I want them to be easily accessible, so I keep them off of the body just behind the thumbs. This allows me to just lift my hand in a hand-shaking gesture and fire my tools onto the palm side of the shelf. Some people would consider this upside down, however, it is a far more natural movement than trying to fire a tool onto the back of the hand (the default location).
