MAINTAINER_MODE is enabled for conky builds.
It's intended only for development, see details.
Latest main (post 1.22.0), adds REPRODUCIBLE_BUILD which should be enabled (doesn't hurt to do it early). This flag disables use of (s)ccache for now and will later simplify package maintenance on your side.
To enable testing use new BUILD_TESTING flag. To run tests automatically, enable RUN_TESTS.

Last two changes aren't part of a release yet, but the first issue hurts performance because it's effectively an "-O0" flag.
