AgIsoStack News (11/10/2023)
Hello everyone!
This is just a quick announcement to say that we've been officially granted an SAE manufacturer code!
Our new, official manufacturer code is 1407 (decimal) 0x57F (hex), and will appear shortly in the ISOBUS database, as well as the next printing of the J1939 Digital Annex.
What's that?
On ISO11783 and J1939 networks, as you probably know, the main way that you identify your control function (CF) on the bus is via your NAME. Your NAME contains a number of fields that tell other CFs what it is that your CF does. One of the fields inside it is the manufacturer code which describes to other devices who/which company created each control function.
This information is used on may field computers and other ISOBUS/J1939 devices to display diagnostic information and other things, such as what CF owns certain DDOPs on a task controller. Now, you may start to see "Open-Agriculture" on these devices over time when you use our examples!
In most of our example projects, you will see that we often use an unassigned manufacturer code (to avoid stepping on any corporate toes), but we will be going through and updating each of these examples to instead use manufacturer 1407.
Can I use your manufacturer code?
If you are writing software for an ISO11783 or J1939 application, are using one of our communication libraries, and are not selling your software or device containing that software for-profit, then you are welcome to use our manufacturer number in your application. In fact, we encourage it!
If you are creating such an application for sale as a for-profit company, then we ask that you please obtain your own manufacturer code from SAE instead of using ours.
Thanks
Thanks again everyone for your continued support of our completely free and open source CAN stacks!
Thanks also to SAE for issuing us a code! I don't think any of us expected you to say "yes", so we are all pleasantly surprised and very excited to officially join the list as manufacturer 1407.
Thanks to @JannesBrands for taking the time to submit our request to SAE and work with them on this process.
