If we have link joining, it is natural to imagine that might give the administrator the ability to choose between approving those who joins by link, or auto approve anyone who has the link.
If there is link joining a malicious actor could share the link with someone who should not have it, and have more votes for their desired choice. This might be hard to detect in large groups.
However in smaller groups, with higher trust or lower impact decision one might feel that having to approve each person joining is overkill.
I suggest the default option is to manually approve.
