This issue applies to various maps that were made before and around 1.7, whereby mapmakers used 4 sided piston blocks (once referred to as barrel-like blocks). When this block was phased out of the game all maps were updated to have normal pistons, many of which are now facing the wrong direction as seen on Golden Drought 2. Many maps on OCC have this cosmetic issue and is not what the original mapmaker intended. This issue is not gamebreaking and is not a priority, though that doesn't mean the maps cant be fixed over time.
Describe the solution you'd like
Old maps are opened in their correct version of minecraft (to prevent corruption of any items on the map) and pistons are oriented to a way that makes them appear as close to what was originally intended. I will be using mcedit for this task (if others want to replicate method) as mcedit does not generate new chunks and is less invasive than other methods.
Known maps with above-mentioned issue
Golden Drought series
