Automatic layout selection per keyboard

I regularly switch between my laptop's keyboard (on the go) and the Truly Ergonomic Keyboard (at home). For the laptop's keyboard, I just use plain old Neo, but for the other one, I made a custom variant that works well with those thumb keys. This means that I have to switch between the two each time I switch keyboard and if I forget, strange things happen until I notice it. I understand that it's a very niche problem, but wanted to report it anyway — maybe I'm not the only one.
