<p>
The Eindhoven University of Technology, usually abbreviated to TU/e, is a rather new university. The TU/e
was officialy founded in 1956 under the name Technische Hogeschool Eindhoven. In the 80’s, the name was
changed to Eindhoven University of Technology.
</p>
<p>
For the short history of the university, the TU/e has had
a great influence on the world of science. With a focus on innovation the university distinguishes
itself.

At the TU/e there is a broad scala of technical studies. Traditional studies, like Mechinal Engineering,
but also progressive and new studies, like Psychology & Technology, are taught. No matter what study
you’re interested in, one thing is for sure: the quality is on par.

On the most prestigious university rankings, the TU/e is always in the top 200 worldwide.
Considering the relative small size, this is very impressive.
</p>
<p>
According to Keuzegids, the official Dutch
university ranking, the TU/e is even the best technical university in the Netherlands.
The TU Delft, which scores generally higher on internationalrankings, does considerably worse.

Unlike most universities in the Netherlands, the TU/e has a compact
<a class="page-scroll" href="#campus">campus</a>. The campus is located in Eindhoven.
<a class="page-scroll" href="#eindhoven">Eindhoven</a> is a small city in Noord-Brabant,
the Netherlands.
</p>
<p>
It is known as the city of lights. Light bulb manufacturing and
technological innovating business Philips was established in Eindhoven. Although Philips moved their
headquarters to Amsterdam, the company is still strongly tied with both the city and the university.

The TU/e has a compact campus. All the university buildings and facilities are located on this campus.
All departments in the university have their own building or buildings on campus. Below you can find a
map of the campus. The most important locations regarding the Data Science bachelor have been
highlighted.

<h4>Metaforum</h4>
<p class="info">
The library of the university is located on the lower level floors of the Metaforum. A lot of students
choose to meet up or study here. The higher levels of the Metaforum are assigned to Computer Science
studies. The department of Computer Science is officially located here. On most levels there are
cabinets. These are often used for meeting places for Computer Science courses.
</p>
<p class="info">
Also located in the Metaforum is <a href="https://www.gewis.nl/en/" class="external">GEWIS</a>,
the study association of the Computer Science department. The Data Science bachelor falls under the
Computer Science department, so GEWIS is also the study association of this bachelor.

<h4>Auditorium</h4>
<p class="info">
Most lecture rooms are located in the Auditorium. Mostly basic courses are taught here. Almost all
students sometimes have to go here for lectures or meetings. In the middle of the Auditorium is the
Blauwe Zaal. Guest lectures and graduations often take place here.
</p>
<p class="info">
Not everything on campus is study-related. At the Eindhoven Student Sport Centre (ESSC) students can go
to the gym or the pool. At and in the vicinity of the ESSC, there are a lot of sport associations that
students can join.
</p>
<p class="info">
Next to the sport associations, also the student associations have a place on campus –
or rather across the street from the campus: at the Bunker most student associations have found their
place. These include most notably
<a href="http://www.demos.nl/algemeen" class="external">Demos</a> and
<a href="http://www.ssre.nl/" class="external">SSRE</a>. Some other student associations, like the
<a href="http://www.hetesc.nl/word-lid/" class="external">ESC</a>, are located elsewhere in Eindhoven.
</p>
<p class="info">
There are canteens in several buildings at the TU/e. For somewhat fancier dining
and wining, cafe
<a href="http://www.dezwartedoos.nl/nl/grand-caf" class="external"><q>De Zwarte Doos</q></a>
is a more approriate choice. There is also a movie theater in <q>De Zwarte Doos</q>. There are several
screenings of popular movies every week. As you can see, the campus of the
<a class="page-scroll" href="#submenu">university</a> has a lot to offer.

the TU/e. With the help of their success, the Eindhoven region was elected smartest in the world in 2011.

<h4>Eindhoven as a city of pleasure</h4>

There is lots to do in Eindhoven for pleasure. Shops, restaurants and pubs can be found in the
commercial centre. Below are some of the best cultural experiences in Eindhoven.

Every year light festival
<a href="http://www.gloweindhoven.nl/website/glow/glow.php" class="external">GLOW</a> is organised in
Eindhoven. During this festival, you can really see why Eindhoven is called the city of light. The most
amazing light spectacles can be found every November in Eindhoven.
</p>
<p class="info">
Found yourself in a need of a bite in Eindhoven? Go to
<a href="http://www.frietopia.nl/index.php?page=28&listd=923" class="external">the frietzaak of Martin </a>.
In the Netherlands, the to-go fastfood is a container of fries with mayonaise. Martin Zwert’s place was
given the title of best fries in the Netherlands for four times in a row!

There are a lot of interesting museums in Eindhoven. From contemporary art at the
<a href="http://vanabbemuseum.nl/" class="external">Van Abbemuseum</a> to trucks at the
<a href="http://dafmuseum.nl" class="external">DAF museum</a>, Eindhoven has it all. Philips also has
their own museum; the <a href="http://www.philips-museum.com/uk/" class="external">gloeilampfabriek</a>.

In the southern part of the Netherlands, people celebrate carnival every February. To put simply,
this is a week of drinking beer and
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjC_q_eV3hU" class="external">singing</a> and <q>dancing</q>.
They even change the name of the cities: Eindhoven becomes Lampengat, which roughly translates Lightbulbhole.
Enormously fun - or at least that’s what the Brabanders and Limburgers think. There are more
<a href="http://www.thisiseindhoven.nl/" class="external">things to do</a> in Eindhoven. Be sure to check

Eindhoven is an amazing city for a student to live and work in. Yet one other reason to go study
