Policy for bug fix releases

Hi everyone!

I am using spikeinterface, and I noticed that a bug that I am facing has been fixed several months ago in this commit bc72499, and it is pretty embarrassing. However, no new release or pre-release of spikeinterface has been published on Pypi. Would it be possible to do some pre-release for bug fixes on Pypi please? Otherwise, what is the best solution according to you? I can clone the github repo and install it but it is quite painful to update all the automated workflows to manually install packages.

Hi,
release take quite some time for us.
We need to ensure that probeinterface+spikeinterface+spikeinterface-docker+spikeinterface-gui+documentation play well togoether.
Plus internal discussion on the when and which PR are included (we are never agree) !
We have bug fix almost every week.

Finally we are doing more or less 3 release per year.
We known this is frustrating for data analysis production users.

In your case I would do pip install git+https://github.com/SpikeInterface/spikeinterface.git or even tag a specific commit.

The next release should be next week!

Maybe @alejoe91 have other though.

Well said @samuelgarcia ! Yes 0.98.0 will be out early next week.

@florian6973 there are still some modules in heavy development. As a rule of thumb, for the next year you can expect a major release every 2-3 month. Since we are still making core changes, it's hard to interleave this with minor releases. As the code gets more stable we will make minor patches and releases more and more often. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Awesome for a new release next week! And yes you're right pip install git+https://github.com/SpikeInterface/spikeinterface.git is definitely the simplest solution.
