We should really support the latest version of the format. Most modern libraries in other languages support this revision, and it appears to remove some of the YAML 1.1 quirks. SnakeYAML Engine is based on SnakeYAML, so the existing loader should be able to be ported over with minimal effort.
The YAML 1.2 loader should probably be maintained in parallel with the yaml 1.1 loader, since the maintenance burden is expected to be fairly small. Perhaps they can share a common API?
I don't plan to begin work on this until the planned revisions to the YAML 1.1 loader are completed and have had some time to stabilize.
