Sadly I still have some keys that seem to make the current field defocus (might be bound now to the tab key), which are: @, #, { and }. If you can make them behave, thanks a lot :)

I can't reproduce this, they work fine for me. What desktop environment are you using?

I have quite the feeling that this is also locale dependent as keyboard layout goes. I'm on italian layout, please try to temporarily enable that in the Steam settings.

Anyway, I'm running KDE Desktop.

Hey there, I have a similar issue with the arrow keys also inserting a tab. I'm using QWERTY and US UTF8 locale on GNOME

I don't see this happen on the Italian layout like the issue originally states but I do see it on the arrow keys. Will need to dig deeper to understand what's happening - seems like multiple keys can return the same keycode...

I can't reproduce this again, oddly enough. Does this still happen to anyone else?

Still happens for me. Have been focused on other things lately but hoping to get back into it within the next few weeks

Okay, while working on an unrelated project I realized I probably need to be using libxkbcommon here. When I get a chance (which is hopefully soon) I'll have something to try which is hopefully the fix.

The Russian keyboard layout is completely unusable, rendering Wayland to be unviable on my Steam Deck.

This is not fault of extest

LD_PRELOAD=/pathtolib/debug/libextest.so xdotool key ntilde works as expected sending a "ñ"

Is the steam keyboard that is not sending the correct keys and extest is getting the 156 keycode
The 156 keycode is sent with any non US character for example "ñ, í, ó"

Steam keyboard without extest on wayland also fails but works on X11
Steam keyboard opened inside bigpicture works correctly but it seems to be a different keyboard than the OSK we get on desktop
