When you enter the cannon as Goomba, who cannot jump, the A input (whatever you have it set to) used to fire the cannon isn't mapped, just like it normally isn't for Goomba and you can't pause the game and exit the level, so you have to close the emulator and open it again. Usually when something like this happens such as jumping out of a dive or selecting menu buttons for Goomba, either the A input is mapped temporarily or the B button functions as A as well.

Can't you just switch character to jump out of the cannon and then change it to goomba again?

with goomba, you can jump (pause, unpause, one frame later click a and boom you jumped. He can even tjwk easily with the tas input plugin) so use this method and you can probably jump out of the cannon

Sadly, when inside a cannon, you cannot pause, as my set pause key (enter) just wont pause. I think that's how the game is programmed to not let you pause in the cannon but idk. I'll just ignore cannons as Goomba for now.

I didn't try that, maybe that'll be a temporary solution.

It worked! Thanks for the idea. I'll keep you all posted on future glitches, softlocks, and bugs.
