Proposal: when producing PDFs, the \TeX macro should produce tagged content such as follows:
/T <</Alt (\376\377\000t\000e\000c\000h) /ActualText (TeX)>> BDC ... EMC

This way

  • supports Copy/Paste to give the textual form: TeX
  • derives to HTML with this textual form: TeX
  • speaks with TeX as in 'technical' rather than as in 'Texas'.

This PDF does this, as well as many other things: texlive-vpat-titlepage.pdf

Note that tagging is not required for this. It should be standard in all TeX/LaTeX (and other) formats.
