I think we need to sync the restrictions on the vmi app with the Nginix settings. As a minimum, We should ensure a picture upload succeeds directly from a new iPhone / iPad. This is a way to reproduce the error.

I just tried this locally (with runserver) with my iPhone 9 and the image size was 2.7MB (on disk). Maybe we should use 5MB as the limit?
