New version 0.91.6 mobile top launcher bar missing and bottom tabs obscured by format bar #1121

Description

Just updated to newest version. The website looks great with the new horizontal settings. I love the command bar up top. However, the mobile web version is broken.

Tabs have been enabled. Currently we are using the same implementation as on desktop, which might have a few quirks on mobile.
The tabs at the bottom are semi obscured behind the format bar. Only a small portion of the top of the tab is visible and the rest is behind the format bar. It makes for a fairly unusable experience.

On mobile the horizontal layout (with the launcher bar displayed at the top of the screen instead of on the left side) is now enforced.
The top launcher bar is missing. Just see the icon to show the left tree and 3 vertical dots. Tapping on the dots does nothing. Tapping the left icon does display the tree.

I did take some screenshots, but don't see where I can upload them.

Tried on 2 mobile browsers on android. Brave and Firefox. Same result.

@whisperdancer ,

Sorry to hear you have issues on Android. The formatting bar is meant to stay above the keyboard when you type (otherwise it would go away), but it seems to cause some issues on Android.

Are you able to try the PWA? That is, not accessing the server directly but adding a launcher on the home page. The app might react slightly different than when rendered directly in the browser.

You should be able to simply paste the images in a comment here and GitHub should upload them for you. If it doesn't work on mobile then you can try sending them from your PC.

I should have stated that I am using it as a PWA on the homepage. Thanks for the tip to add the screenshots. This should hopefully better illustrate the mobile issues. It's unusable without the launchbar. I can't even add a new message on mobile since the bar is missing. I should note that the bar is missing with either horizontal or vertical option for the launchbar selected.

This is on a google pixel 6 pro phone running stock Android 15. Brave browser.

I can reproduce the issue as well. Will have a fix for it.

Sorry, the change log was not up to date. The launch bar is at the bottom and you can already see it (the one with back, forward, plus and global menu). It's currently lacking buttons since I would like all the buttons on it to be mobile-ready.

I can't even add a new message on mobile since the bar is missing.

Not sure to understand here. If you mean to add a note you can still add a note from the note tree or from the jump to note button (+ button). I will add back the new note button in the launcher.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't see where to add a note from the note tree. It only displays the tree. The + button on the bottom does not present a way to add a new note, rather it displays search only. (see pic) I want to add a new note to the journal like the desktop.

Also, the format bar does not rise above the keyboard.

Long press any note in the note tree and a contextual menu should appear and then you could select either "Insert note after" or "Insert child note"

As soon as you type a note title, there is an option to create a note. But I think it will also create a link to the newly created note so maybe it's not what you're looking for.

Also, the format bar does not rise above the keyboard.

Do you have a screenshot for that?

Neither of these options are what I'm looking for. Before these changes there was a button similar to the desktop web where I could tap and it would add a new note to my journal. Has this functionality been removed in the new version?

Also, there doesn't appear to be a way to dismiss the "context menu". It seems to want to force one to make a selection. There is no "X" out, or tapping outside the dialogue. Nothing seems to work. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Overall the recent mobile changes represent a huge improvement in the mobile experience. Excellent job to the dev team. Fixing the tabs and adding back the new note in the launcher (which I hope adds a new note to the journal) will be fantastic! Thanks 👍

I did notice that the quick search via the + button on launchbar only searches by note title, not note contents and there is another search above the tree which will search within the body also. This seems a bit confusing and unnecessary. I love the search popup on the + tap. Why not just have a single search on the + button and have a toggle control to include/exclude the note contents within the search. Just one easy simple place to search instead of two. The default for that toggle can be set in settings to user preference.
