As of.. a few days ago? maybe? Looks like the cropping is happening on Insta's side. I think it only crops non-square images, maybe.

For example, this post has this image in the twitter:image meta tag.

Not sure how long CDN links last, so here's the two images:

Surprisingly, image-only d.dd is not affected, only the regular ddinstagram.com.
