Status of QueryControls component

I'm developing custom blocks that rely on fetching custom fields and taxonomies from custom post type, I'm looking at different approaches to do so.

While looking at different approaches across different blocks (osomblocks, ultimate-post plugins, the core query block), the QueryControls seems appealing to me because the code seems much more simpler (at the risk of having a litttle bit more abstraction) to implement filtering features.
There's the latest posts block is using the QueryControls component to provide to provide filtering options (of a query) but I haven't found any other blocks that use it, very little discussion of using it ; and has seen minimal development work on it.
so maybe there's some reasons why it shouldn't be used?
