Notes on the procedure for new EUTelescope releases:

  1. write/update changelog & release notes in README.release_notes (in trunk)
  2. if new major release: create new dev. branch for this release (e.g. v01-00-dev)
    • remove/adjust the lines in the CMakeLists.txt that are marked with “!RELEASE”: these activate e.g. debugging/extra warnings and electric fence
    • set build type in CMakeLists to “Release”
    • adjust the paths in the examples to point to a fixed reference data path (for stat tests on the root files), e.g. /afspath/to/examples/examplename/release/0.9.X This makes sure that the test do not start to fail if the reference files need to be adjusted to account for changes on the trunk
    • remove any unnecessary test cases/examples or temporary files (consider removing them from trunk as well)
  3. bump release version in the CMakeLists.txt file (if needed) IMPORTANT: if you also bump the trunk version:
    • ON ALL WORKSTATIONS RUNNING NIGHTLY TESTS (euteltesting & co): clean-up the old libraries and link eudaq against the new ones (see FAQ)
    • write a mail to [email protected] to inform about the required clean-up in ./lib and the recompilation of eudaq mentioned above
  4. create SVN pre-tag for this release (e.g. v01-00-00-rc1)
  5. TEST THIS RELEASE!
  6. fix issues, test again
  7. create SVN tag for this release (e.g. v01-00-00) e.g.:
    svn copy https://svnsrv.desy.de/desy/eutelescope/Eutelescope/branches/v00-08-dev \
    https://svnsrv.desy.de/desy/eutelescope/Eutelescope/tags/v00-08-01 \
-m "Tagging the 0.8.1 (point) release."

  8. change releases/v01-17/release-versions.py in ilcsoft-install and get a new tag for ilcsoft-install
  9. update web pages:
    • update installation documentation
    • update release notes/change log (from README.release_notes, e.g. via emacs-org-mode html-export feature, use regex ‘id=\(.*\)>\(.*\)</h\([234]\)>’ -> ‘><a name=\1>\2</a></h\3>’ to set anchors in a drupal-compatible manner)
  10. announce! :)
