Launchpad bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xubuntu-website/+bug/1858720

Summary: We make it easy to download Xubuntu, but don't provide any steps on how to install it. Ideally we would add the installation steps on the download page so a new user can take the next steps.

I have proposed adding installation instructions to the documentation, which we could link to from the download page.

Ubuntu Mate has on their .torrent file download page a link to 'How to image a flash drive (Windows, Mac, Linux)'

Ubuntu has a tutorial for installation

I agree this fits probably better in the documentation.

Maintainability is the only potential downside; we have previously deliberately kept the documentation screenshot-free in order to not have to update with each release.

I've begun writing the documentation in this week's documentation google doc.

We decided to begin adding screenshots and images to the documentation, but to do it in a way that requires the least amount of maintenance, like using a standard background with screenshots, so it's not pinned to a specific version's wallpaper.

The alternative approach could be that we add the wallpaper or desktop screenshot to each documentation release and the app screenshots would be transparent pngs and we have the wallpaper appear behind each image, as needed. Or another approach could be that we only update the screenshots each LTS, with the exception of if the UI in the screenshot has changed between LTSes.

Do we want to put a bandage on the situation for now and link to the Ubuntu installation tutorial?

I don't think there is any rush, let's develop our own and work it out the way we want it.

Okay. I've completed the writing of the installation instructions in the google doc, if you'd like to have a look over it.
