noticed the redstone wasn't working, looked and I'm pretty sure redstone was below a silverfish infested stone, a silverfish left and broke the entire circuit. Might be intentional idk, but if it isn't it could be easily solved by putting the redstone on top of wood or something silverfish can't burrow into.
