Thanks for the update. But I'm afraid it's still slow, about the same slow speed, or maybe just a little bit faster.

There seems to be some confusion over what "slow" actually means. Paul apparently corrected a calculation within VDH that was displaying an incorrect download speed on the blue dot status menu. Everybody else is talking about downloads taking longer than they should, regardless of how fast or slow VDH is saying the download is progressing. I imagine that the VDH status menu is now accurately showing the putrid download speeds a lot of people are experiencing. My belief is that the slow speeds are simply evidence of the web sites in question throttling their service, although I have run some tests that seem to indicate VDH could be made to work faster. I don't know that even if VDH were faster, that it would affect the speed of download any given server might be permitting. It might be something Paul is looking into. I don't work for VDH so I'm not privy to such things.

The speed on that media manifest was inconsistent when I tried it earlier, at certain intervals the speed would drop down to nothing
before going up again. It's probably expired now.

If it's just this one site , it's throttling the speed from the server it's hosted on.

I don't think the host is throttling the speed because when I revert to version: 8.1.4.0, I have no problem with the speed.

I can download the video in about 5 minutes or so (for an hour video) with version: 8.1.4.0. With this beta, it takes about 2-3 hours.

8.2 use Side Download as its default downloading method. So I am surprised to see a difference in speed.

Question: you say it was 5 minutes and now it's few hours, and I'm wondering if you actually let it download for that long? Maybe it says few hours, but maybe it actually downloads in 5 minutes?

This morning, I downloaded the 8.2.1.5a1, updated on Feb. 29.2024. It seems that the speed is back to the same speed as 8.1.4.0.

Initially, after updating to 8.2 (and 8.2.1.3a1), my usual download didn’t finish within the time I usually wait.

So, I checked the window (I don’t know what it’s called, but please see the attached file) and it said 2:30:20 or something like that showing it takes more than 2 hours.

I downloaded one file waiting for more than 2 hours. So, it wasn’t just what the windows said. It took that long.

Today, I downloaded the alpha version to take a screenshot to compare with 8.1.4.0. and the alpha. The speed is back to normal with the 8.2.1.5a1, so the changes you made are working.
