Daniel Wright created a ticket for this. He suggests that we mirror the behavior we use in the XDM object.

Thanks for bringing this back up @mdonke. We have a ticket for this but it got deprioritized the last few months to focus on closing some gaps. A lot of that work is wrapping up so I will bring this up again.
