Last Giver release - 0.1.8 Release Aug 2007.

There has been code committed to SVN since 0.1.8 was released, but no new
releases
have been made. Besides a few small patches in this issue tracker, nobody is
actively developing or maintaining Giver.

I hope to find time to review the patches that have been submitted and get them
into
SVN, but I cannot predict when I will have time for that (maybe next Hackweek?).

Ideally, somebody familiar with the code would have time to do patch review, and
eventually new developers could be trusted with SVN access and maintainer
rights.
Right now that momentum does not exist. Giver is released under the very
liberal
MIT/X11 license, so anybody is free to fork it and take over.

I welcome any ideas for how to improve this situation.

I just learned of this app, and am surprised it hasn't received more fanfare.
Brilliant.

Just wanted to let you guys know that Linux Mint (rather big Ubuntu derivative
that
includes multimedia, unique tools, etc.) just started including Giver by
default, and
is considering having it auto-start by default as well.

I'd love to help if I can, don't know C# (about to take exams for my first
semester
of Java, and will be taking more classes in it), but let me know if there's
anything
I can do.

mewithafez,
C# is syntactically very similar to Java. If you're interested, there are some
sample
C# programs at http://zamples.com/JspExplorer/samples/csharp.jsp that you might
find
helpful.

Well, I just installed the svn; a good learning experience was had by all, and
now it
is working just fine. I'm going to try installing it on windows with the
--enable
windows thing and see how well that works; if it does, there is hope that this
might
be the portable filesharing thing I'm looking for. That'll sort of determine how
involved I get. All the best, and thanks for the C# examples!

doh - didn't notice that some binaries had been pre-packaged by aqeel on the
list.
Will try those first before SVN on windows. Also, I am the same person as
mewithafez;
2 different accounts for work and home :D

After we release 0.1.9, I will consider this a closed bug. Until we do that we
haven't proven anything I guess. :-) Ankit is hard at work getting the last
bug
fixed for 0.1.9!

Great work guys! I can't wait for the next release!

This is exactly what synergy needs!

I'm playing with Ubuntu (desktop), can't live without Windows (work) on my
laptop and
LOVE Synergy! Again thanks for taking this on. You've got at least one user
cheering for you (though I suspect there are many more).

What do you mean by "allow others to do it"? The code is open source, have a
ball!

She probably means the same thing you are talking about: Introducing new
developers that can eventually take over the original project, rather than
forking.

Hi,

I often use Giver. Unfortunately, it has not changed for a long time.

So I decided to write a Java software that can transfer files and folders on
LAN.

It looks like Giver. Its name is "Transfer on LAN" and you will find here :
http://code.google.com/p/transfer-on-lan .

Arno,

I tried your app and I must say I like it!
It really works much like giver and is simple to use.

Better alternative to Giver is Dukto: http://www.msec.it/blog/?page_id=11
