I got this behavior too, because I did not register your codecs.
Adding this solved my issue:

reg := codecs.Register(bson.NewRegistryBuilder()).Build()
clientOptions := options.Client().ApplyURI("mongodb://localhost:27017").SetRegistry(reg)

Same issue here although i registered the codecs
