Is this a feature relevant to companion itself, and not a module?

  • I believe this to be a feature for companion, not a module

Is there an existing issue for this?

  • I have searched the existing issues

Describe the feature

The ability to organize instances and triggers into folders that can be renamed and reordered. For organizational purposes.

Usecases

Use case would be users like myself with nearly 50 instances. The equipment was purchased at different times and added to companion as it was installed so there's no rhyme or reason to the list of instances. The same is true of triggers. The ability to organize these long lists by type or category would be a massive help!

An alternate solution from #2348 by @McWoahs

Describe the feature

I am very excited for the updates coming in the beta version of companion with regards to the 'Triggers' portion of the software as I use Time of Day triggers extensively with my workflow. Usually 60+ per event.

I wanted to suggest adding an option to choose a color for each trigger created. Perhaps just 5-10 basic colors to choose from. That way you can, at a glance, know what type of trigger your looking at in the trigger list.

Usecases

I created a crude little preview with Photoshop of what I had in mind.

My current use case is a fitness event that I trigger a video/audio event for every new wave start, Around 40-50 per day. I also trigger a different video/audio event for the first wave of each category, and finally I trigger a slide advance after the last wave of each category. So I'm creating 3 types of triggers. I figured having an option to add a color to each trigger would help me quickly decipher what 'type' of trigger I'm looking at when moving to clone or edit a trigger.

+1 for being able to organize Modules and Triggers into folders/groups, which can be switched on and off at the group level (like you would a photoshop folder filled with layers).

Julian I like your idea of being able to sort and filter triggers by column data. Another idea could be tags for triggers, that could filter and turn on/off.

+1 but in my opinion and to generalise the UI:

  • Connections
  • Surfaces
  • Triggers and schedules
  • Custom varibles

should be able to organise

Could easily be done with the tree organisation of #2387

+1 for this. Some kind of organization enhancement specifically for the triggers. Tags, Groups, or Folders or a combination of them. I have a lot of triggers and the list grows. Getting confusing to find them at a glance.

Categories for Variables, similar to Presets would be greatly appreciated!
