What causes rapidly flickering loading symbol while viewing recordings?

When viewing a recording, after a while, I see a rapidly flickering/buffering indicator in the middle of the screen. I did some reading and found it was recommended to separate the drives so I now have config on my NVME and recordings on a 2-TB WD Red rotating HDD. Apparently that wasn't the bottleneck though.

Hardware is a new minicomputer. I'm sure the hardware is adequate.

Not sure how to troubleshoot this.

a video might be helpful to see to know exactly what is going on. In general this will show if the player buffers for more than 3 seconds

the video looks like it is playing in fastforward (not realtime speed), what playback speed are you using

8x. The default

1x is the default to be clear, in this case your system is likely just struggling to keep up as decoding high resolution at 8x is a lot of work especially for a phone

Sure enough. It doesn't do it on my desktop. Thanks. Looks like even my Pixel 9 Pro Fold isn't enough to sustain 8x on a 3k camera. However it works fine on 1080.

8x playback was the default when I installed my system. I noticed it initially and wondered if they expected me to review 24h of footage in just 3 hours :)
