Without a specified open source license, it falls under normal copyright (all rights reserved). No one is allowed to use or modify it. Since you published it here, i guess you want people to use it etc.
When you ever want to contribute it to upstream (v4l), you need a compatible license!

From looking at https://git.linuxtv.org/v4l-utils.git/tree/COPYING?h=stable-1.22, i suggest GPLv2 or later. But you can ask them what the best license would be in this case.
