For 5.3 + at least for distribution Android builds the current build.cs file is not updating the proguard setting for engine which will result in the Braze SDK items being inconsistently being removed from the builds causing crashes.
As part of the BrazeUPLAndroid.xml you should include along the lines of
<insert>
<![CDATA[
-keep class com.braze.Braze { *; }
-keep class com.braze.BrazeActivityLifecycleCallbackListener { *; }
-keep class com.braze.BrazeUser { *; }
]]>
</insert>
I have manually update my engine for our team but it was a pain tracking down this issue.
