Stop publishing to CurseForge
Been dragging my feet over this for a while now, but increasingly
uncomfortable with Overwolf. I'm not going to delete the project (or any
existing versions), just not publish any new versions there.

It's still published to Modrinth. CF prevents other software from using mods on their site, Modrinth encourages it. Why can't ATM10 embed it from Modrinth like other modpacks?

They kinda can't right now, mostly because their modpack building approach allow them to use mods only from curseforge, so they don't embed any mod.

And it is not only ATM10, second and thrid modpack by downloads for 1.21 (at least, according to this scan), also don't update CC:T, and only one of them (direwolf20) embed at least some mods.

I also know that AP stuck with 1.113 version for obvious reason now and the rest of CC:T addons would be forced to do the same.

They maintain the mod for free, and have been for years. Why wouldn't they put their own bias into it?

Not really dooable. CF doesn't make it easy to get things approved that are hosted outside of CF.
I have asked about moving from CF, but the tldr; is that it is far more trouble than it is worth.

If the mod maker doesn't like overwolf, that is their decision. Don't force that on everybody else.

Not to mention, I know that the mod maker still logs into CF to collect on the revenue gained by people downloading the older versions of CC. If they really care that much about it, leave the money on the table.

Finally, how do you think the original maker of CC would react to this? Do you think they would be happy about the drama? Or do you think they would prefer getting this mod into as many people's hands as possible to celebrate and enjoy the joys of Lua in Minecraft?

I figured the issue was with the app.
Because if it was with the company itself, I question why they are still collecting money from them?
If they are so against the company that they stop updating their mod on it, they wouldn't accept money from said company.

I don't really want to get into a whole debate about this, but thought this was important to nip in the bud now:

That's a really good question, and I think always a tricky one to answer. Is it "right" to take money from a source you disagree with? I think for me, they're still making money off my work regardless, so not collecting money only benefits Overwolf. If I had pulled the mod entirely from CurseForge, and Overwolf wanted to offer me a "donation" (very unlikely :p), I think that would be a different question.

For the sake of transparency, while I do make a reasonable amount of money from modding, the majority of that income is donated elsewhere (60-85% in 2024, depending on how you want to count Patreon). Given modding income is taxable, I've ended up "losing"¹ money the last couple of years.

Anyway, afraid I'm going to lock this discussion. I'm happy to discuss this further with people, but I don't think the tone in this thread is lending itself anywhere productive.
