When first starting my wordpress site with admin rights, the top menu shows next to "Edit Page" CiviCRM.
If I click on the top menu item CiviCRM I get the error message:
"Sorry, due to an error, we are unable to fulfill your request at the moment. You may want to contact your administrator or service provider with more details about what action you were performing when this occurred.
DB Error: no such field"
After that the full CiviCRM menu appears on the top row, and everything seems to work.
If I start CiviCRM by clicking on the left menu "CiviCRM" I do not get an error message.

Any suggestions?
This behavior first appeared after updating my version of CiviCRM to the current version.

@BenBachrach Can you have a look in your CiviCRM logs to see what it's complaining about? You should find them in wp-content/uploads/civicrm/ConfigAndLog or similar.

Also, which is your "current version"?

@BenBachrach Also, did you visit CiviCRM's upgrade page? You'll find the link in the "Miscellaneous Utilities" section of the CiviCRM Admin Utilities settings page.

@BenBachrach Yes, I mean the page at /wp-admin/options-general.php?page=civicrm_admin_utilities_parent which should have a section at the bottom called "Miscellaneous Utilities". There you will find a link that says "Click this to upgrade CiviCRM". You should click that and then click through CiviCRM's upgrade process on the pages that follow.

FWIW, I've looked at your logs and the error isn't coming from CiviCRM Admin Utilities but from CiviCRM itself. If you can upgrade to 5.19.3, I would recommend doing so. And remember to go through the same upgrade process above!

@BenBachrach One more thing - I would also clear CiviCRM's cache after an upgrade. This can also be done from the "Miscellaneous Utilities" section at /wp-admin/options-general.php?page=civicrm_admin_utilities_parent. Tick the checkbox and click "Save Changes".

I am pretty sure I have done the upgrade to 5.19.1 about 2 weeks ago.
Should I do it again?

@BenBachrach Yes, you should definitely do this. I suspect you didn't do it last time, which is why you saw the error that you did.

@BenBachrach No problem, glad you got things sorted. CiviCRM's upgrade routine is more involved than any other plugin I know of - but once you know what to do, it's not so daunting. Remember to go through that upgrade process each time you upgrade and you'll be fine.

Cheers, Christian
