Unable to generate registration challenge, error in transport layer (-2)

Getting this error while trying to set up keys using pamu2fcfg on a macbook pro. The u2f-zero is connected through a usb-c adapter, so that may be part of the problem. Device will not register with other web-based multi-factor authentication set-ups either.

I can confirm this with Fedora 30 and latest Titan Security Key
