Issue Description

This is a high-priority area for future exploration, and this ticket is intended as a placeholder for discovery work. There are multiple opportunities throughout the 686/674 form experience where dependent information could either be pre-filled or presented for selection (e.g., picklist of dependents). This functional would reduce the burden on Veterans filling out the form and eliminate mistakes/omissions that can delay claim processing. Some examples that need further discovery:

  • Pre-fill spouse information (this would prevent issues with incorrect ssn)
  • Picklist of existing dependents displayed when removing a dependent
  • Picklist of existing dependents age 18-23 when filling out a 674 (this would eliminate cases where a Veteran submits a 674 for a dependent that is not on their award or submits a 674 for a dependent that already has one)
  • Dependent "widget" experience that can be embedded in other forms where dependents are added to benefits (e.g. pension and disability), so Veterans filling out those forms see a picklist of existing dependents that can be added to those benefits as they are initially applying for them.

Tasks

  • Prioritize discovery efforts. Autofill spouse info may be the easiest lift, but a picklist of existing dependents may have the most impact.
  • Create milestones for specific features

Acceptance Criteria

  • Follow on tickets for specific discovery, research, design, and engineering work are created and associated with the related milestone
