Is it possible to make standalone games on the engine? #98
Comments
The license allows it, but it is not a goal of this project. The goal is to run as many UE1 games as possible, starting with UT and Unreal. Using it for standalone games is not without problems though. While SE's license is open source, the unreal scripts from the original games are not. In order to do it you'd have to write new ones from scratch. Honestly, it is much easier to use a different engine for such things. |
Alongside that, you'd also probably need SurrealEditor to become feature complete, which will take a long time. |
Understandable, I was kind of getting a good idea what you have planned for the engine. So far, I enjoy what your doing with the project. This engine has great potential. Keep up the good work. Thought would suggest this idea and see might be some interest down the line. Others might ask this same question in the future so be aware. No worries if not. Hey, I'm aware of a script library called AngelScript that could be some good use for the project as a scripting feature if you wanted. Anyways, thank you for replying back. I wish you guys some good luck! |
I was considering creating a game on Surreal when it gets further along. Are there any future plans to support this by the way?
