Set the appearance of macOS to Dark Mode in System Preferences -> General -> Appearance.
The favicon is black, thus not visible when the tab is open and not the focused tab. Even when focused, it is not well visible.
In this screenshot the tab on the left is focused, the tab on the right is not. Not the favicon on the right tab is not visible.
This is in Firefox, the behavior is different in Safari (on my version the favicon does not appear, replaced by a 'T' icon).
